The cumulative passenger throughput at Suzhou South Railway Station and Shengze Station on the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High-speed Railway exceeded 10 million on August 9.
Following the roll-out of the national train timetable for the third quarter of this year, 134 trains stop daily at Suzhou South Railway Station and 76 at Shengze Station. The rail services reach 16 provincial-level administrative regions across China as well as the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, covering 90 prefecture-level cities and 225 passenger stations. Passengers can reach core transportation hubs in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) such as Shanghai Hongqiao within one hour and major city clusters in the region within three hours, with effective links to key urban agglomerations in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the Pearl River Delta.
Since the beginning of this year, the two stations have recorded an average daily passenger throughput of 17,590, of which Suzhou South Railway Station accounts for 12,512 and Shengze Station 5,078, representing a year-on-year increase of 9%. A record high of 45,000 passenger trips was registered on National Day in 2025.
With Suzhou South Railway Station and Shengze Station at its core, Wujiang District’s rail transit network is rapidly taking shape. On the Wujiang section of the Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo High-Speed Railway, which is set to intersect with the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High-Speed Railway at Suzhou South Railway Station, all 21 continuous beams have been completed, box girder erection is nearly finished, and the Fenhu Tunnel has been holed through, with ballastless track construction underway. Construction on the Jiangsu section of the Water Town Tourist Intercity Railway began in the first half of 2025, with main-structure work progressing steadily on the Suzhou South Tunnel segment. Feasibility studies for the section from Suzhou East Railway Station to the Jiangsu-Zhejiang provincial border on the Rudong-Nantong-Suzhou-Huzhou Intercity Railway are proceeding in an orderly manner.
