The renovated and upgraded Suzhou No.1 Silk Factory officially opened on May 29.
Founded in 1926, Suzhou No.1 Silk Factory was one of China’s most representative silk reeling enterprises and a national demonstration base for industrial tourism. Located on Nanmen Road in Gusu District, the century-old factory has been renovated and upgraded into a cultural and industrial park with a total floor area of 54,000 square meters. The project has achieved functional renewal while safeguarding industrial heritage, keeping five historic buildings, one cultural relic building and a host of ancient and famous trees preserved intact.
Apart from rich themed activities, the site hosts five exhibitions, namely the Industrial Heritage Exhibition, Factory History and Archives Exhibition, Silk Fabric Exhibition, Silk Pattern Exhibition and 2026 Joint Graduation Design Exhibition of Suzhou Universities. The No.1 Silk Factory Pier has also been restored for ancient city moat cruises, which helps create new scenarios for cultural and tourism consumption.
