The Tiger Hill Lantern Festival will officially open to the public on Feb. 11. With the theme of “Lanterns Illuminating Tiger Hill · Fortune Overflowing Gardens”, the lantern festival integrates traditional lantern art with modern lighting technology, where visitors can feast their eyes on dazzling lantern installations and enjoy dynamic artistic performances as well.
The Tiger Hill is the most famous scenic spot of Suzhou. This year’s lantern festival, centered around the cultural legends of the Year of Horse and the Tiger Hill, features about 30 sets of lantern installations displayed along the route from the south gate of the scenic area to the Tiger Hill Pagoda.
Apart from static light displays, this year’s festival also offers a number of traditional cultural activities, including parade performances of large-scale fish lanterns handmade by craftsmen from the Huizhou area.
In addition, a themed traditional-style market will be held concurrently with the lantern show to further enrich the experience of visitors. This year’s lantern festival, which is more than a feast of light and shadow, blends traditional New Year customs and modern garden tours.
