The 5th China-U.S. Sister Cities Conference, co-hosted by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, was held in Kunshan, Suzhou on Nov. 3. The theme of the conference was “Build Green Cities for the People”.
Zhu Yongxin, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD), attended the opening ceremony and read the message sent by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the conference.
At the opening ceremony, Suzhou and Portland as well as Kunshan and Durham, exchanged memorandums of understanding on further deepening friendly exchanges and cooperation. During the conference, the attendees had in-depth discussions on three topics: economy and employment, education and youth, and climate and environment. They also engaged in a number of one-to-one exchange activities.
About 200 people, including representatives from more than 10 provinces and cities in China and heads of counties and cities from 22 states in the United States, attended the conference and its sideline activities.
