  Located in Xiangshan Street, Wuzhong district, Zhoushan village covers a land area of eight square kilometers, lying at the foot of Qionglong Mountain. Featuring its intersecting canals, clean waters and green hills, pleasant climate and abundant resources,, Zhoushan village is a typical example of water towns in Jiangnan region south of the Yangtze river, a remarkable birthplace of outstanding people. Zhoushan village enjoys fascinating pastoral landscape and favourable location with unique eco-tourism environment, rich natural resources and time-honoured historical and cultural scenes. Therefore, Zhoushan is a Taihu-style village featuring its high-level vegetation, ecological agriculture, pastoral gathering living, and well-preserved historical sites.

  Zhoushan village is the birthplace and development core of nut carving, an important folk art in Suzhou. This art form has distinctive local cultural styles, of which every piece reaches a high level of art in the design and carving skills enduing it with artistic and aesthetic value. Served as decoration, it enriches and beautifies people's life. The techniques of nut carving embodies the imagination and creativity of nut-carving artists from generation to generation, which has significant value of cultural inheritance. The most delicate nut-carvings, proud of their fine crafts and vivid sculpts, are perfect combination of craft and art. In recent years, nut-carving artists in Zhoushan village are becoming more and more active. In Zhoushan, not only older generations of nut-carving artisans, such as state-level intangible cultural heritage inheritors represented by Song Shuiguan, are still diligent to create, but also a batch of younger generation of outstanding nut-carvers has emerged. Now, every family in Zhoushan village is engaged in nut carving. As the cradle of nut carving, Zhoushan village has developed nut carving into a unique local cultural industry, which has become the main source of income for people in Zhoushan and its surrounding areas. There is no doubt that Zhoushan village is the leading community for nut carving in China.
