The 10th Bonsai Exhibition of Changshu opened in the Zengzhao Garden a few days ago. This year’s exhibition features more than 130 excellent works of local bonsai masters, covering over 30 tree species. It tops the list for professional bonsai exhibitions in recent years in terms of the quantity, grade, variety and specification of exhibits.
Yushan town in Changshu city has a long history of bonsai cultivation and is reputed to be one of the birthplaces of Suzhou-style bonsai. On the exhibition are many ancient trees bonsai, some of which are grand prize winners in bonsai competitions.
The traditional bonsai in Changshu favors the design of “six terraces, three platforms and one top”. In recent years, Changshu bonsai artists have paid more attention to innovations in bonsai styling, trying to create bonsai works integrating features of the Painting of Mount Yu School.
