According to the Suzhou Tourism Bureau, the city received 6.6 million domestic and foreign tourists during the week-long National Day holiday, increasing by 9.8% year-on-year (similarly hereinafter). Total tourism revenue reached 8.656 billion yuan, an increase of 13.82%.
Thanks to the generally pleasant and comfortable weather during the holiday, the number of visitors to Suzhou increased substantially. The number of day-trippers grew by 7.43% and that of overnight visitors by 12.3%, with an average stay of 2.22 days. Total tourism revenue in Suzhou during the two holidays for the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day reached 10.406 billion yuan. The average occupancy rate of hotels stood at 76%, a decline of 1%. The revenue of restaurants grew by 3.5%. The business income of stores and supermarkets was down by 1%. But the shops around the scenic spots and the e-shopping platforms saw a big increase in sales, and the Suzhou tourist specialties and souvenirs sold like hot cakes.
During this year’s National Day holiday, innovative tourism products were hot sellers like traditional ones; urban tourism and rural tourism were both popular with vacationers. The ancient towns and villages in Suzhou attracted a large number of tourists with their profound historical and cultural heritage. Rural tourism, ecotourism and micro-vacations were choices of many families.
