Ordinary World, a modern drama adapted by Shaanxi People's Art Theatre from renowned Chinese novelist Lu Yao's masterpiece of the same name, will be staged at the Grand Theatre of Suzhou Culture and Arts Center (SCAC) on Apr 27 and 28, according to SCAC's announcement on Feb 23.

The novel, winner of the Mao Dun Literature Prize, one of the most prestigious Chinese literature prizes for novels, depicts the drastic political and economic changes in the country between 1975 and 1985 through the stories of a group of ordinary people.

The production crew is hailed as a "formidable lineup", consisting of famous Chinese director Gong Xiaodong, playwright Meng Bing, producer Li Xuan and domestic best-known lighting, costume and sound designers.

Gong said the drama incorporates diversified theatrical representations as well as Shaanxi dialect and qinqiang opera (a representative folk opera popular in northwestern Shaanxi province and an intangible cultural heritage) to give the audiences a chance to experience authentic Shaanxi culture.

SCAC said, since the event is an important part of the 2018 Suzhou Youths' Drama Festival, the ticket buyers can enjoy government subsidy and discount that are designed to enable more local residents to gain a better understanding of excellent original dramas home and abroad.
