The Non-Material Cultural Heritage delegation of Suzhou returned from Latvia on Feb. 12. During their visit, the delegation members participated in the large-scale cultural activity “Happy Spring Festival” in Latvia and showcased the charm of intangible cultural heritages of Suzhou.
This year’s Happy Spring Festival, which was co-organized by Chinese Embassy in Latvia, the Chinese Cultural Center in Riga, Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Film and TV and Suzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Press and Publications, was held in Riga, capital of Latvia, on Feb. 10. The activity consisted of the Spring Festival Temple Fair and the Chinese New Year Concert, bringing the joy of the festival atmosphere to local people.
It was the first time for Latvia to hold the large-scale cultural activity “Happy Spring Festival”, which provided Latvians a good opportunity to experience Chinese culture and gain a glimpse of customs to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year. The cultural exchange activity in Latvia helped publicize and promote Suzhou’s intangible cultural heritages, especially its traditional handicrafts, which was warmly welcomed by local citizens and overseas Chinese.
