According to the latest statistics released by Suzhou Customs on Jan. 22, Suzhou’s foreign trade in 2017 totaled 2,139.49 billion yuan, up by 18.5% over the previous year. The city’s exports increased by 17.2 % to reach 1,267.05 billion yuan, while its imports surged by 20.3% to 872.44 billion yuan. Suzhou’s annual trade surplus rose by 11% year on year to 394.61 billion yuan. Its foreign trade volume has been steadily rising and reached an all-time high in 2017.
In 2017, China’s total value of imports and exports was 27.79 trillion yuan, up 14.2% compared with 2016. The total import-export value of Jiangsu province was 4 trillion yuan, an increase of 19.1% year-on-year. Suzhou’s total import-export value accounted for 7.7% and 53.5% of the total volume in China and in Jiangsu province respectively, and the growth enabled the city to rank fourth among the large and medium cities in the country after Shanghai, Shenzhen and Beijing.
