SIP Shengpu Sub-district Folk Song Troupe recently participated in the 2017 China Excellent Intangible Cultural Heritage Folk Song Show held in Gaoyou, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, sharing the stage with 17 folk song troupes from all over the country.
In the event, the Shengpu performers staged a sitcom adapted from the folk song Grain Threshing, which won the first prize in Yangtze River Delta Folk Song Competition in June 2016. The performance depicts a picture of autumn harvest and a love story between young farmers, receiving warm applause from the audiences.
Shengpu folk songs serve as a testimony to the development of the traditional culture in Shengpu Town and its surroundings, reflecting the locals' aesthetic taste, moral sentiments, thinking mode and folk customs. Songs of this kind were identified as intangible cultural heritage of Jiangsu province in 2009.
